Zanthoxylum avicennae (Lam.) DC.(Rutaceae) is an8m high shurb, growing in SouthChina, such asHainan, Fujian, Guangxi. Private apply it as a herbal medicine used fortherapy of many kinds of snake bite, sore throat and jaundice. However, there is very littleresearch about the Quality Evaluation on Zanthoxylum avicennae, In order to betterexploitation this plant, we investigated on its chemical constituents and tested theirbioactivites for Zanthoxylum avicennae of Hainan. This paper consists of three chapters,which shown that: The first chapter was the review about the research the chemicalconstituents of genus of EtoAc and40%n-BuOH of Zanthoxylum avicennae:elevencompounds were isolated by Diaion HP-20, Toyopearl HW-40, MCI, Sephadex LH-20,RP-18and silica gel column chromatographic methods. Nineteen of these compoundsstructures were identified on the basis of physicochemical and spectroscopic analysis(1H-NMR,13C-NMR, DEPT-135, HMBC, UV, MS et.al) and their physical andchemical properties, which included:Dihydrokaempferide(LD-1), scoparone(LD-2),1H-indole-3-carboxylic acid(LD-3),6-Oxo-2(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-3,7-dioxabicyclo-[3,3,0]-octane(LD-4), subericacid(LD-5),4,4-dinethyl-1,7-heptanedioic acid(LD-6),methylsyringate(LD-7),β-sitosterol(LD-8), Skimmianine(LD-9).The second chapter was antioxidant and antifungal activities of Zanthoxylumavicennae:We had Screened activity on all Zanthoxylum avicennae extracts by Totalflavonoids and total phenolic content determination, the experimental antioxidant activity,antimicrobial activity tests.The present study indicated that40%n-BuOH of Zanthoxylumavicennae had most content of Total flavonoids and Total phenolic and strongest activities ofantioxidant and antifungal. The third chapter was evaluation of biological activity on ethanol extracts fromZanthoxylum avicennae:1. Diferent extracts of Zanthoxylum avicennae had shown strong toxicity activitytowards brine shrimp, peculating that Diferent extracts of Zanthoxylum avicennae have someanti-tumor activity.2. After ICR mice were inoculated with H22transplanted solid tumors,the content levelof TNF-α,AST,ALT and IL-2in model mice serum was significantly higher than the controlgroup, meanwhile the index of liver, spleen, thymus and other organs of the immunesignificantly reduce.The content level of TNF-α,AST,ALT and IL-2in model mice serumwas significantly lower than the model group;Mouse administered EtoH extracts ofZanthoxylum avicennae tumor weight were significantly lower compared with the modelgroup,body mass index of the overall trend to grow.3. ICR mice were Life span of mice inoculated with H22transplanted solid tumorsandand administered EtoH extracts of Zanthoxylum avicennae were significantly increased, theoverall trend of BMI to growcompared with the model group.4. The content level of TNF-α,AST,ALT and IL-2in Immunodeficient mouse modelwas significantly higher than the control group, meanwhile the index of liver, spleen, thymusand other organs of the immune significantly reduce. Index of immune organs of mice of thetreatment group administered EtoH extracts of Zanthoxylum avicennae was significantlyincreased compared with the model group, and a significant increase in the level of serumSOD, meanwhile the content levels of MDA, TNF-α and IL-2were significantly lower.The evaluation of biological activity results: By evaluation of in vitro anti-tumoractivity on EtoH extracts of Zanthoxylum avicennae,we can peculate that Diferent extractsof Zanthoxylum avicennae have some anti-tumor activity;By evaluation of in vitroanti-tumor activity on EtoH extracts of Zanthoxylum avicennae, it could significantly inhibitsolid tumor growth in vivo mouse tumor model, enhanced immune function in mice, repairdamaged liver, reduce inflammation and organ damage expression by TNF-α and IL-2inserum; significantly prolong the survival time of ascites tumor model group. Enhance theimmune-deficient mice immune organ function and antioxidant capacity of cells. The overall body mass index of each group of mice administered in three models trend to grow; Wespeculate EtoH extracts of Zanthoxylum avicennae have anti-tumor effect easing H22hepatoma the development.
