Aim: To investigate the risk factors of refractory irritable bowelsyndrome-diarrhea (IBS-D) to provide evidence for early prevention andtreatment of IBS-D.Methods: A total of121cases of IBS-D from out-patient clinics weredivided into refractory group (56cases) and non-refractory group (65cases). The clinical data in both groups, including sex, age, Body MassIndex (BMI), family history, smoking status, alcohol consumption, clinicalsymptoms, anxiety and depression status, were assessed statistically byunivariate logistic regression analysis and Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis, in an attempt to seek out the predictors of refractoryIBS-D.Results: There were no statistically significant differences in sex, age,BMI, family history, smoking status and alcohol consumption between thetwo groups. The univariate logistic regression analysis showed that clinicalsymptoms(OR=1.010,95%CI:1.005,1.015), anxiety(OR=2.810,95%CI:1.888,4.180) and depression(OR=1.637,95%CI:1.338,2.004)status were the risk factors. Their area under ROC curve (AUC) were 0.757,0.919and0.796, and the cut-off values were183marks,9marks and6marks, respectively. Conclusion: IBS is significantly associated with clinical symptoms, anxiety and depression status, which may be used as predictors of IBS-D.
