Objective To understand the epidemiologic characteristics of syncope in children and unexplained syncope morbidity of elementary and middle school students in the city of Changsha, the research will focus on genetic and related risk factors of unexplained syncope. Based on the results of this research, we can take interventions to help unexplained syncope children to improve their health condition. Methods By choosing6full-time elementary or middle schools’ students and categorizing them into three groups:key school group, normal school group and peasant laborer dependent’s school group, we randomly selected students from age5to18and conducted the survey by sending them4215pairs of questionnaires. We received3721pairs of returing questionnaires (88.28%).Results There are738students from3721students who have symptom of UPS (19.81%). And the morbidity of secondary school students are higher than elementary school students morbidity (28.87%vs7.96%,χ2=252.11, P<0.01). The onset ages of UPS are6~18(age14.23±2.70years old). For the middle school group, the morbidity of female students are higher than male students(χ2=6.06, P<0.05). But for the elementary school group (male9.04%vs female6.68%,χ2=2.85, P>0.05) and the totality of secondary school students (male18.67%vs female23.27%,χ2=3.51, P>0.05), there is no significant difference between genders. The main cause of UPS is enduring standing (51.22%), muggy environment (27.51%) and sporting (16.40%). Compared with the inducement of UPS by gender factors, the morbidity of female students caused by and muggy environment is higher than male students (31.82%vs23.27%,χ2=7.06, P<0.01). For the risk factor urination, the morbidity of male students is higher than female students (2.42%vs0.52%, χ2=4.72, P<0.05). The premonitory symptom with highest frequency is dizziness. Other7factors (persistent stand, blood phobia, psychoactive stimulate, acute pain, hot bathe, defecate) for male and female students do not have significant difference(P>0.05). The main premonitory symptoms are vertigo (64.09%), dizziness (34.69%) and blurred vision (31.98%). Also, the female students with premonitory symptom of syncope (dizziness, chest distress, nausea, profuse sweating, pallor, numbness of limbs) are more than male students (P<0.05).Results The UPS morbidity of students in Changsha is19.81%, and the morbidity of middle school students (28.87%) is higher than primary school students (7.96%).The peak ages of disease is16years old. some factors for inducements and premonitory symptom of syncope have gender difference.
