Diagnosis And Management Of Pineal Tumors

Objective:Pineal region tumor is a kind of deep seated lesion which have a variety of histological types and surrounded by some important structures. There is no agreement on the best treatment option still. By studying our clinic records of pineal region tumor, a progress will made for the diagnosis and management of this tumor.Materials and methods:A retrospective analysis of xiangya hospital neurosurgery from2006to2013,81cases of pineal region tumors with clinical data and results, go to surgery, complete diagnosis. According to the literature and clinical experience in quantifying prognosis criteria, make a follow～up questionnaire. Depending on the surgical approach, demographic characteristics and auxiliary examination results to the patient’s results risk factors analysis of prognosis.Results:Eighty-one cases patients are by surgery treatment, was full pathology diagnosis. Number of81patients were followed up to53cases, follow-up of28cases of loss. Follow-up time from3months to7years, with an average follow～up time of2.5years. GOS score:5points in27cases,4points in14cases,1points,1, lpoints in11cases. Peri-operative period of2death cases, accounting for2.4%. A case of plant life.Conclusion:According to the location of the tumor, and its relationship to surrounding anatomical structures to choose the best route. Longitudinal fissure～Corpus Callosum～choroid fissure approach is better than posterior postoperative survival rate, data showed statistically significant. Pure germinomas surgical treatment is beneficial for patients, and may be considered the treatment of choice.
