Elderly systolic hypertension is a common type, often associated withlower diastolic blood pressure.Arterial stiffness is the most importantmechanism. Arterial stiffness is mainly caused byatherosclerosis, arteriostosis, extracellular matrix, inflammation, geneticfactors, endothelial dysfunction, high plasma homocysteine and angiotensinII.Its main characteristics are as follows:high prevalence rate, systolic bloodpressure increased, pulse pressure increased, fluctuant blood pressure, abnormal blood pressure circadian rhythm, clinicalhypertension, pseudohypertension.―J curve”、 stroke and cognitiveimpairment are the main problems associated with lowing bloodpressure. Therefore,in the process of treatment,in addition to theanti-hypertensive drugs,we should use drugs to improve arterial stiffness.
