The Treatment Strategy For Acetabular Defects In Total Hip Arthroplasty

Currently，The acetabular defect is still one of the challenges for us inthe total hip arthroplasty, frequently in the revision ones. Besides, variousacetabular defects can be seen in the development displasia hip, traumaticarthritis after acetabular fracture and acetabular tumor. It is important toget the precise judgement of the type of acetabular defects before surgeryin order to reconstruct acetabulum and regain hip function. At present,classifications for Acetabular defects are numerous and cut both ways.Among them, AAOS and Paprosky are the two types of classificationsmost frequently used in the world. There are many ways for thereconstruction of acetabular defects, including different types of prosthesis,Impaction bone grafting, metal block and customized prosthesis. But, nosingle method can be used for all the acetabular defects. Different methods,single or combine, are always needed during operation. Therefore, Thecauses, types and handling methods in THA are reviewed in this article.
