Study On The Status Of 7 Tertiary A Hospitals ICU Nurses’ Knowledge, Attitudes And Practices About Sedation In One Province

Objective:To investigate the current state of knowledge, attitudes and practices of sedation among ICU nurses,analyze its shortage and impact factors,and make the reasonable suggestions.And to provide reference for continuous quality improvement of sedation nursing and clinical education.Methods: A questionnaire of ICU nurses’ knowledge, attitudes and practices about sedation was distributed to 194 ICU nurses from seven tertiary A hospitals in one province using convenience sampling. The data were analyzed with software SPSS version 20.0.Adopting descriptive analysis, t test, single factor analysis, multiple regression analysis and so on.Results:(1)the score of sedation knowledge was 10.84±2.05 in 194 ICU nurses,accuracy is 67.75%;the attitudes score was 26.96±2.85 and score ratio was 77.03%;the practices score of sedation was 23.37±4.36 and account for 66.77%.(2)There were statistical significance of sedation knowledge scores among nurses of different age, education,professional ranks, ICU specialized nurses, train(P<0.05); There were statistical significance of sedation attitudes scores among nurses of different age,length of nursing age, length of ICU nursing age, professional ranks(P<0.05); There were statistical significance of sedation practices scores among nurses of different age,length of nursing age, length of ICU working, ICU specialized nurses(P<0.05).(3) multiple regression analysis show sedation train, education were the primary influence factors of knowledge;the knowledge of sedation, age were the main influence factors of attitudes; knowledge,attitudes of sedation,and years of ICU working were the main influence factors of practices.(4)the knowledge score was obvious low in the matter of daily interruption of the sedation,sedation assessment; the attitudes score was quite low in terms of sedation assessment,sedation goal; the practices score was quite low in terms of sedation goal,sedation assessment, the causes of restless.Conclusions:ICU nurses’ sedation knowledge was deficiency, attitudes about sedation was fair positive,but sedation practices existed gaps with guideline. Moreover the situation of over sedation occured occasionally, the recommendation of light sedation was not fully adopted,and sedation scale use was unsatisfactory. ICU administratorswould improve nurses’ sedation practices when combine weakness between different nurses to carry out clinical continuing education.
