| Research purpose:Zhang Zhongjing wrote Shanghan Zabing Lun( Treatise on Febrile Disease and Miscellaneous Diseases), the first monograph on clinical medicine in China. In which, he drew up complete and effective pharmacology, therapeutic methods, prescriptions and medicines. Based on strict laws, the prescription compatibility was formulated and the prescriptions were rigorous, refined, and effective. Among his 323 prescriptions, 77 contained cassia twig, so the study on applied compatibility and therapy regularity of cassia twig in Treatise on Febrile Disease and Miscellaneous Diseases helps observe Zhang’s holistic thinking and syndrome differentiation and treatment principles in clinical treatment, can better comprehend the essence of flexible medicine uses, and also provides theoretical guidance and reference in medication for clinical medicine.Research methods:With the method of literature study and statistical analysis, this thesis sorts out the prescriptions containing cassia twig in Treatise on Febrile Disease and Miscellaneous Diseases, analyzes the frequency of the medicines which are compatible with cassia twig, explores the relationship among the compatibilityenvironment of cassia twig, the dose of cassia twig, its effect in different cases, and the intrinsic links with syndromes.Research results:1. The compatibility of cassia twig with tonics is the most frequently used, with drugs acrid in taste and warm in property is the second, with drugs acrid in taste and cool in property is the third, and with drugs bitter in taste and cold in property is the least used.2. Reasonable compatibility of cassia twig is widely effective.3. The compatibility of cassia twig with drugs of different tastes and properties implicates the “Eight Kindsâ€, a prescription formulating principle.4. Cassia twig can be applied in yang deficiency, cold coagulation, water flooding, yin hyperactivity.Research conclusions:1. Zhang Zhongjing attached great importance to the “yang-qiâ€, which was demonstrated by compatibility and application of cassia twig.2. Zhang emphasized the nursing of spleen, so drugs warming spleen and invigorating stomach occupied a vital position.3. Activating yang and transforming qi was focused by Zhang. If the qi-transformation of the body fluid in the bladder is in disorder, cassia twig could be used to recover the qi-transformation.4. Different doses, compatibility of drugs and decocting methods of cassia twig can exert different effects in order to adapt to different syndromes. It is a reflection of Zhang’s “syndrome differentiation and treatmentâ€. |
