Objective:To compare the differences of different ages of the clinical features of optic neuritis and glucocorticoid treatment.Methods:A retrospective collected in January 2003---March 2014 in the Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University Eye Center, diagnosed with optic neuritis 196 cases of clinical data (286 eyes) patients. According to the UN World Health Organization and the China Standard:segmented into two groups by age:youth (18-44 years old) and elderly groups (>44 years old), retrospective analysis and understanding between the two groups in general Clinical characteristics.Results:In this study, there are 184 cases included in the final project (268 eyes) of optic neuritis patients. Compared with the youth group, the elderly group, the low rate of optic disc edema (24.8% vs 7.8%, P=0.010), periventricular demyelination plaques high rate (7.5%vs 21.6%, P=0.007). Youth groups and other studies in the elderly group showed:gender (P=0.379), the eyes (P=0.796), eye pain (P=0.853), a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (P= 0.799). Treatment time (P=0.773), The hospitalization time (P=0.533), hormone drugs group (P=0.134) no significant differences between the two groups. In the elderly group hormone proportion of side effects compared with young group high (P<0.001)Conclusion:This study suggests that erderly group and youth group was similar clinical features of optic neuritis, in elderly patients with hormone impact is safe, but need to pay attention to monitoring the side effect of the hormone..
