Objectives Through the way of combination drug therapy and health education i ntervention for hypertension patients, investigate the influence of comprehensive i ntervention measures on knowledge, attitude, practices(KAP) and blood pressure c ontrol among essential hypertension(EH), provide basis for preventing and control of hypertension in the rural areas. Methods Community comprehensive intervention trial with self-control was used in this research. Rural patients with hypertension were randomly sampled from th e county of Ganyu and Donghai of China Stroke Primary Prevention(CSPPT) Pr ogram then measure the patients’ blood pressure, weight and height and surveyed with a questionnaire. Epidata3.1 was used to establish database, for dual recordi ng and error detection. Use SPSS16.0 software to conduct the descriptive statistic al analysis. Results 1.Before and after the intervention population characteristics except th e contrast before and after the comparison of age, marital status, income level differ ences, the rest of the differences were not statistically significant, The nature gro wth of the differences may be due to aging of population and the level of econ omic development.2.Before and after the intervention, most of patients with body mass index in over weight and obese range, compared to no significant difference before and after th e patient’s body mass index.3.Before and after the intervention, the source of knowledge of hypertension patients in the top three were medical staff family and friends and radio and television, t o obtain knowledge of hypertension through other ways people accounted for only a small part.4.The passing rate of the KAP total score, knowledge, attitude and practice of lo cal hypertension patients all increased with significant differences(P<0.05)after int ervention,from50.2%,48.9%,48.1%,37.2%to89%,78.2%,93.2%,71.7% respectively.5. The average systolic blood pressure of them decreased from(169 ± 13.67)mm H g to(147.78 ± 17.27)mm Hg,diastolic blood pressure from(95.75 ± 9.39)mm Hg to(84.09 ± 11.16)mm Hg,The percentage of hypertension patients who controlled their blood pressure in healthy level has changed from 11.5% before intervention to 49.2% after intervention. For those who still keeping high blood pressure patients, the ratio of typeⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ hypertension patients also reduced from 42.7%, 43.5%, 2.5% to 40.7%、9.8%、0.3% after intervention.6.The awareness, treatment and control ratios of hypertension have risen from 67.3%、44.2%、11.5% to 96.3%、88.5%、49.2%.7.In addition to smoking there was no statistically significant difference(P>0.05)be fore and after intervention, the knowledge, attitude and behavior change and high blood pressure control are achieved statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions The comprehensive intervention model based on the programme of health education,by means of decreasing the level of risk factors and reinforcing the management of patients by drug therapy,is effective and practicable. It can be conducted to reduce BP level of residents, increase the rate of treatment and control the level of KAP and the medication adherence of hypertension patients, and to improve health conditions and life quality. So we should continue to expand health education and popularize knowledge of hypertension and make suitable prevention methods to each area, thus to reach the final goal of improving the health condition of hypertension patients of rural area and to prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases like stroke among our residents.
