Objective1) Make a research of the long axis of the mechanical characteristics of carotid artery plaque between diabetic group and normal control group using VVI;2) Differences between the various mechanical indexes ROI were compared in the two groups;3) Differences of mechanical indicators between the two groups within each ROI are compared, indicate which indicators can be used to indicate the stablity of a plaque.MethodsSelect50Type2Diabetes mellitus patients diagnosed as carotid plaque in February2012to February2013in First affiliated hospital with Nanjing Medical University. And then select50cases of normal carotid plaque as a control group. We compare the difference of index of velocity, strain, strain rate between and/or in the two groups using velocity vector imaging. Using SPSS16.0statistical software for analysis, measurement data were expressed as mean plus or minus standard deviation, the results are P<0.05was considered statistically significant. Plaque in the same position between the two groups of the same parameters ROI using comparison of two independent samples t test, the two patches of different ROI using comparison of various parameters ANOVA, the group meets Levene test of homogeneity of variance using LSD multiple comparison test methods.Results1. Comparison of two general Age, gender, TG, TC, HDL, LDL of diabetic group compared with the control group was not statistically significant (P>0.05), The fasting blood glucose of diabetic group was significantly higher than the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).2. Comparison of each index between the two groupsVelocity, strain and strain rate in diabetic group is reduced compared with the control group (Table1);3. Comparison of each index of VVI between the two different ROI3.1Velocity3.1.1The velocity of diabetic group from R1to R4are decreased, then increased from R4to R5; the positive peak, negative peak and peak difference of velocity in R1has a statistically significant difference compared with R3, R4, R5(p<0.05);3.1.2The trend of the positive peak, negative peak and peak difference of volicity in the control group is to decrease and then increases, and the velocity between each ROI is not statistically significant (P>0.05);3.2Strain3.2.1Positive peak, negative peak, the peak difference of strain in diabetic plaque is increased from R1to R2, R2to R4decreases and then increases from R4to R5, where the positive peak of strain in R2has a statistically significant difference when compared with Rl, R3, R4, R5(P<0.01, table2);3.2.2For the control group, there is no regular trend of all the index of strain;3.3Strain rate3.3.1The trends of strain rate of diabetes plaque have a similar performance with strain, where the index of positive peak of the strain rate of R2has a statistically significant difference compared with R4(P<0.05, Table3);3.3.2For the control group, there is no regular trend of all the index of strain rate; Conclusions1. We found that all index of carotid plaques of diabetic group are less than control group by WI, indicating that the mechanical property of carotid artery plaque in the diabetic group is decreased;2. Through analysis of each index in the two groups, proximal shoulder of carotid artery plaque get a larger force than other points, then this points can rupture more easily.3. WI technology can be a good evaluation of the mechanical characteristics of the long axis of carotid artery plaque in patients with T2DM.
