| Purpose:To determine the effect of combined glaucoma-cataract surgery on visual field in advanced glaucoma patients with cataract. Methods:twenty patients (twenty eyes) with advanced glaucoma and cataract underwent combined glaucoma-cataract surgery (small incision extra-capsular cataract extraction, intraocular lens implantation and trabeculectomy). All the patients underwent visual field examination before and three months after surgery with OCULUS Centerfield automatic perimeter. Visual acuity and mean defect (MD) were analyzed by paired-samples T test. Results:intraocular pressure of the twenty eyes were well controlled. The visual acuity of the twenty eyes were improved three months after surgery, had statistically significance (P=0.000). Average mean defect (MD) before and after surgery had no statistically significance (P>0.05). Some of the patients had slight complications which were cured after symptomatic treatment. Conclusions:the improvement of sensitivity of the whole visual field of the patients with advanced glaucoma and cataract was non-significant after combined glaucoma-cataract surgery; however, visual acuity improved obviously. To a certain degree, it can improve the patients’visual and living quality. |
