Objectives In this paper, we firstly performed a cross-sectional survey of hyperuri-cemia (HUA) in GaoYou rural region, then maked a meta-analysis of prospective studies on hyperuricemia and coronary artery disease (CAD). At last, we investigated SNP rs6903956polymorphism identified through Genome Wide Association Studies in Chinese CAD case-control study in asymptomatic hyperuricemia case-control population recruited from epidemiological survey previously. Methods (1) We performed a cross-sectional survey of HUA in Gao You rural region involved in4527residents living in10villages from January to May2010.(2) We searched the electronic database Pubmed and Embase for published reports about the relation between hyperuricemia and the risk for CAD incidence and mortality in Chinese, Japanese, Korea cohort, then performed a meta-analysis to assess the rela-tion between uric acid level and CAD incidence and mortality.(3) We selected416cases with asymptomatic hyperuricemia and447hyperuricemia-free controls to in-vestigate SNP rs6903956using Taqman technique. Results (1) The overall prevalence of HUA was11.9%. Men had a higher preva-lence of HUA (15.7%) than did women (8.6%). WHR, Cr, Tg, hypertension were independent risk factors for males with HUA. Age, BMI, Cr, Tg, hypertension were independent risk factors for HUA in females.(2) HUA is a risk for CAD incidence [RR2.06(1.52-2.79)] and mortality [RR1.95(1.87-2.04)], descending to [RR1.24(1.13-1.35)] for incidence and [RR1.26(1.81-1.35)] for mortality after adjust- ment of conventional risk factors.(3) The distribution of genotypes (AA, GA, GG) and allele (A, G) were different between case-control population (the former: P=0.034; the latter:P=0.036). Allele A (Allele G as reference) and genotype AA (genotype GG+GA as reference) are both risk factor for CAD in patients with HUA [(the former:OR=1.449,95%CI:1.024-2.051);(the latter:OR=3.887,95%CI:1.269-11.906)].Conclusions (1) The prevalence of HUA which can be affected by age and gender in rural region is11.9%.(2) HUA can increase the risk for incidence and mortality in CAD.(3) SNP rs6903956was susceptible to HUA. HUA may share the same back-groung with CAD.
