Objectives:We aimed at observing the insulin resistance in peri-and in postmenopausal women, and the improvement of insulin resistance after hormone replacement therapy.Method:All the samples are form the patients who visited the outpatient of menopause in the Affiliated Obstetrics and gynecology Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University. W(?)lassify them in three groups marked as the early peri-, the late peri-and the post menopause. Some of them received the HRT for at least6months. Serum levels of estradiol, FSH and insulin and plasma levels of glucose were measured both before and after the HRT. The homeostasis model assessment (HOMA) index is calculated according to the insulin and glucose. Results:The level of serum estradiol is decreasing among the groups of early peri-, late peri-and post menopause (p<0.05), however the level of FSH is increasing(p<0.05). The level of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) is increasing with the progress of menopause (p<0.05), and it is significantly decreased after the HRT (p<0.05).Conclusion:While the women are in the period of menopause, the level of serum estradiol is decreasing and the level of FSH is increasing. The HOMA-IR is also ascending with the changes of E2and FSH at the same time. After the HRT, the level of E2increases while the level of FSH decreases. And there is significant improving in the level of HOMA-IR. So it is suggested that the level of E2and FSH could be used to evaluate the level of insulin resistance. And the HRT can improve the statue of insulin resistance in the peri-and the postmenopausal women.
