ObjectiveTo understand the prevalence of chronic diseases among the farmers in westernregion of Jilin Province, then master the rank of prevalence rate and the influencefactors that associated with the farmers, and to analysis the related risk factors ofmajor chronic diseases. Consequently, to propose a suitable and effective integratedprevention and control strategies and develop a scientific basis for evaluating theprevention and control measures in western region of Jilin Province.MethodsThe western region of Jilin Province including Songyuan city, Baicheng city andother10districts. According to the one-thousandth of the total urban populationsample in Songyuan city and Baicheng city. Ultimately, to determine five districtsincluded. A total of1295farmers aged18~79years from5districts of Jilin provincewere selected by multistage cluster randomly sampling. The investigation withquestionnaire was conducted in face-to-face style, and chronic diseases conditionswere self-reported. The prevalence rate of chronic diseases among the farmers wasanalyzed through complex weighted computation and the influencing factors wereanalyzed using unconditional logistic regression.Results1. A total of979farmers had chronic diseases among the sampling people, theprevalence was75.6%, After the complex weighted estimation, the prevalence was68.0%. The weighted prevalence of women was75.1%, men was60.9%, theprevalence of women was higher than men(χ2=15.487,P<0.001). the prevalence ofchronic diseases among different gender had significantly increased trend with age.2. According to disease system classification, the first prevalence of chronic diseaseswas the circulatory system diseases, the prevalence was42.0%; Accordingto disease classification, the prevalence of chronic diseases ranked, the top eight werehypertension, osteoarthritis, chronic gastroenteritis and ulcers, coronary heart disease, cholecystitis, diabetes, COPD and cerebrovascular disease, the prevalence were 34.3%,20.7%,11.1%,9.5%,9.2%,8.0%,4.9%,4.5%respectively.3. The influential factors for the top four diseases showed bymultivariate analysis: Age:55-64years old (OR=4.031),65-79years old (OR=4.563),smoked (OR=1.796), overweight (OR=2.813), obesity (OR=4.277) were the riskfactors for hypertension; female (OR=1.483), eat breakfast (OR=2.077) were the riskfactors for osteoarthritis; sometimes eating milk and dairy products (OR=0.482) werethe protective factors for osteoarthritis, female (OR=1.721), family history of chronicdiseases (OR=2.311) were the risk factors for chronic gastroenteritis and ulcers; age:55-64years old (OR=5.938),65-79years old (OR=7.709), gender (OR=1.639),Meat mainly (OR=1.853), veggie-rich diet (OR=1.670), family history of chronicdiseases (OR=2.064) were the risk factors for coronary heart disease.Conclusion1.There was higher prevalence of chronic diseases among the farmers in westernregion of Jilin Province, the prevalence of women was higher than men, theprevalence of chronic diseases had significantly increased trend with age.2.The prevalence of circulatory system diseases was the highest among the farmers inwestern region of Jilin Province, The prevalence of chronic diseases ranked, the topfour were hypertension, osteoarthritis, chronic gastroenteritis and ulcers, coronaryheart disease.3. Hypertension had significant relation with age, smoking status, body mass index;Osteoarthritis had significant relation with gender, breakfast situation, milkconsumption frequency; Chronic gastroenteritis and ulcers had significant relationwith gender, family history of chronic diseases. Coronary heart disease had significantrelation with sex, age, diet, family history of chronic diseases.
