Objective: To investigate the PLA/HAP can be absorbed in the clinicaleffect of the nail plate closed metacarpal fracture therapy. Methods: From2011February to2014July, we treated20cases (22) ofclosed metacarpal displaced unstable fractures, including15cases of male,female5, and the mean age30±5years old.Injuries:7cases of left hand,13cases of right hand. We used PLA/HAP absorbable screw plate for openreduction and internal fixation. We followed up1months,3months,6months,12months,21months after the surgery, including: the clinical follow-up,Imaging evaluation, and the diagnostic score with the TAF diagnostic criteria. Results: In the20cases, we didn’t find those adverse symptoms: rejection, implant exposure, skin irritation or subcutaneous effusion, incisional scar withitching. In postoperative X-ray fracture, there was no short displacement orangulation of the fracture line, which completely disappeared after6month ofthe surgery, and the fracture was healed and firm. The nails eyes slightly blurred, and begun to biodegradation and absorption, though its small diameterunchanged. The healing rate of metacarpal fracture was100%. Useing TAFscore, we found the excellent and good rate was100%of3months afteroperation. Conclusion: Using the PLA/HAP absorbable screw to treat metacarpalfractures, we found the following advantages: early activity, no adverse reaction,no two times removed, no stress shielding effect, no influence with otherimaging examinations, no trouble for daily travel. All patients were satisfiedwith the treatment effect. Use the PLA/HAP absorbable screw to treatmetacarpal fractures is an effective treatment method, and worth of the clinicalpromotion.
