Objective:The aim of this study was to investigate the status of family adaptation in families with a cancer patient,and to analysis the relationship between family adaptation and family resilience factors in families with a cancer patient,and to identify the impact factors on the family adaptation in families with a cancer patient.Method:The study utilized a convenience sampling method,and the study was conducted with the dominant caregivers and the secondary caregivers of 130 families with a cancer patient,which families were from the hospice department of a class 1,Grade 3 general hospital in Dalian.The data collection tools included the self-designed basic information questionnaire,Family Adaptability Scale questionnaire and questionnaires for family resilience factors: Family Hardiness Index,Family communication scale,Problem Solving scale,Spiritual Beliefs Scale and Social Support Rating Scale.General descriptive statistics,t-test,one-way ANOVA,correlation analysis and multiple stepwise regression analysis were utilised to analyze the status of family adaptation and the relationship between family adaptation and family resilience factors,and identify the influencing resilience factors of family adaptation among families with a cancer patients.Result:1.The average score of family adaptation of the families with a cancer patient was(49.55±8.70),the score of family adaptation was lower than the national nomal which was(50.90±6.20)(p<0.01).2.The t-test and one-way ANOVA analysis showed that among the demographic factors,family’s average monthly income,the occupation of the secondary caregivers of cancer patient had an impact on the family adaptation(P<0.05).The family size,familymembers’ gender,age,education, marital status,the knowledge of the patient’s disease,the relationship with the cancer patient and the occupation of the domiant caregivers of cancer patient had little effect on family adaptation in families with a cancer patient(P>0.05).3. The correlation analysis showed that family adaptation had a significantly positive correlation with thoes that family resilience factors which included family hardiness and all its’ dimensions,family communication,problem solving,super-matural beliefs,sociol support and its’ subjective dimension and the utilization of support dimension(P<0.01 or P<0.05).4.Multielement stepwise regression analysis suggested that the predictors of family adaptation included problem solving,family communication,commitment and family’s average monthly income,and these explained 41.20% of the total variance.Conclusion:1.The level of family adaptation in families with a cacer patient was low,and the families were lack of the ability to respond to the stress of one of family members was a cancer patient.2.When the families’ average monthly income was higher and the occupation of the secondary caregivers was full-time that the family adaptation was higher.3.Among the family resilience factors,family hardiness and all its’ dimensions,family communication,problem solving,super-matural beliefs,sociol support and its’ subjective dimension and the utilization of support dimension had a significantly positive correlation with family adaptation.4.The predictors of family adaptation included problem solving, family communication,commitment and the family’s average monthly income.
