| Objectives:Collecting clinical data of patients with motor neuron disease given traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and observing the efficiency and safety of qiangshenjianpi decoction to judge the difference between prior to and after the experiment, which provides evidence for TCM to better service health. Methods:By using the self-controlled design, from December 2013 to February 2015,31 patients who were diagnosed of pathogenic weakness of the spleen and kidney syndrome of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis were enrolled. After informed consent, the researchers were asked to take qiangshenjianpi decoction one dose a day and were evaluated by the rating scale of Chinese medicinal symptom, the Revised Amyotrophic Lateteral Selerosis Functional Rating Scale(ALSFRS-R) and ALS self-rating scales in 0,1st,3rd month respectively. To compare with the scores of these scales and analyze them with SPSS20.0 to observe the improvement of function and the safety of the decoction. Results:The study included 31 patients, non-shedding and exclusion cases. The result show the rating scale of Chinese medicinal symptom decreased significantly in 3rd month compared with the baseline after the decoction. However, there was no significant difference between the result of ALSFRS-R and ALS self-rating scales in 1st,3rd month compared with the baseline. According to self-compile curative effects judgment standards, the total effective rate was 80.65% in 1st month, and 87.10% in 3rd month. The research demonstrated safety of the decoction from security indicators. Conclusions:The research preliminary indicate that the qiangshenjianpi decoction can improve the clinical symptoms of ALS patients who are suffering from pathogenic weakness of the spleen and kidney, stabilize their condition, and improve the patients’life quality and survival. The decoction was proved to be safety. But this small sample sizes study has its limitation, and what we need to do is to establish further standard and expand the sample size for further study. |
