Subclinical hypothyroidism is a common endocrine metabolic disease, characterized by elevated serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and free thyroxine (FT4) is normal. Worldwide, the prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism is different, may be because of race, dietary iodine, regional differences and TSH determination method is different, and other factors. Report the prevalence of about 1%~10%of the population, with women, the elderly. The etiology of subclinical hypothyroidism is complicated. It could be roughly divided into two types:thyroid and outside of thyroid. Serum thyroid stimulating hormone is one of the important indices for screening and diagnosis of subclinical hypothyroidism. With the related research development of subclinical hypothyroidism, the blood lipid metabolism, cardiovascular system, bone metabolism, kidney function and cognitive function gradually be found. The clinical harm of subclinical hypothyroidism has been approved.
