Objective:To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of acarbose versus voglibose in treatment of type 2 diabets mellitus. Methods:The databases were electronically retrieved, including The CochraneLibrary, PubMed,OVID,MEDLINE,EMBASE,CBM,CNKI, VIP and Wan Fang (by the end of August 2014).We also manually searched papers from related magazines and conference proceedings. Then we assessed the quality of included studies, extracted the data from them with the evaluation method recommended by system evalu-ation manual. Finally, stastical analysis of data obtained using the RevMan 5.2 software. Results:A total of 605 articles were retrieved, but only 10 rando-mized controlled trials were finally included. The results of meta-ana-lyses showed that:compared with acarbose and voglibose group there was no significant difference to reduce 2h PBG(2h Postprandial blood glucose)[MD=-0.04,95%CI(-0.43,0.35),P=0.73], FBG(Fasting blood glucose)[MD=-0.04,95%CI(-0.43,0.35)],HbAlc(glycoylated hemo globin)[MD=0.01,95%CI(-0.20,0.22)],TC(Total cholesterol,)[MD=0.12,9 5%CI (-0.31,0.55)],TG(Triglyceride) [MD=-0.14,95%CI(-0.42,0.15)]. However, the incidence of adverse effects was significant difference between the acrbose and the voglibose group. More increases were reported as adverse events in the acarbose group than in the voglibose group[OR=0.29,95%CI(0.17,0.51),P<0.001].Conclusion:In the treatment of type 2 diabetes, the efficacy of acarbose and voglibose group is similar in reducing 2h PBG,FBG, HbAlc,TG and TC. However the incidence of adverse events of acarbose is higher than voglibose group.
