Aim:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture therapy in comorbid anxiety and depression and explore a new therapeutic method for this disease.Methods:60 comorbid anxiety and depression patients who matched the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into 2 groups. The treatment group was treated with acupuncture to regulate the heart and soothe the nerves and the controlled group was treated with SSRI. We choose HAMA, HAMD, SAS, SDS and SF-36 as the main outcome and evaluate the clinical efficacy after 5 days’ and 10 days’treatment.Results:1.The general data and the scores of HAMA, HAMD, SAS, SDS, SF-36 before the treatment of the two groups showed no statistical difference(P> 0.05).2. HAMA comparison:After 5 days’ and 10 days’treatment, the total score and the two factors scores (psychic anxiety and somatic anxiety) of HAMA became lower, and had significant difference with the sores before the treatment (P< 0.05). After 5 days’treatment, the total score and psychic anxiety of the treatment group were lower than the control group and there were significant differences between the two groups (P< 0.05). After 10 days’ treatment, the difference disappeared (P> 0.05).3. HAMD comparison:After 5 days’ and 10 days’ treatment, the total score and the five factor scores (psychic anxiety, mood, somatic anxiety, cognitive disturbance and sleep disturbance) of HAMD became lower, and had significant difference with the sores before the treatment (P< 0.05). After 5 days’ and 10 days’treatment, the total score and psychic anxiety of the treatment group were lower than the control group and there were significant differences between the two groups (P< 0.05), while there was no significant difference with other factor scores between the two groups(P>0.05).4. SAS comparison:After 5 days’and 10 days’ treatment, the total score of SAS became lower, and had significant difference with the sores before the treatment (P< 0.05). After 5 days’ and 10 days’ treatment, the total score of the treatment group were lower than the control group and there was significant difference between the two groups (P< 0.05).5. SDS comparison:After 5 days’ and 10 days’treatment, the SDS score became lower, and had significant difference with the score before the treatment (P< 0.05). After 5 days’ treatment, the score of the treatment group was lower than the control group and there was significant difference between the two groups (P< 0.05). After 10 days’ treatment, the difference disappeared (P> 0.05).6. SF-36 comparison:After 10 days’treatment, all the indices in two groups were increased significantly compared with those before treatment (P< 0.05).The scores of body pain, general health, social function and role emotional in treatment group were higher than control group(P<0.05).7. Reducing rates comparison:The reducing rates of HAMA, HAMD in two group showed no statistical difference (P<0.05).8. Side effects comparison:1 patients in treatment group had adverse reactions while 7 patients in control group had adverse reactions, the incidence of adverse reaction in control group is higher than the treatment group, wtih significant difference(P< 0.01).Conclusions:Both acupuncture and SSRI can treat comorbid anxiety and depression effectively, while acupuncture has obvious advantages on the fast acting, the improvement of the quality of life in patients and fewer side effects.
