| Objective: Depression is a psychiatric disorder, which main symptoms are depressed, thinking retardation, language and action reduced. Depression can severely affect one’s life and work, bring heavy burden to family and society. The important symbol is the long-term in a negative emotional state and the disability of emotional regulation in the process of depression diagnosis. Therefore, emotional regulation disorder is also the key symptom of depression. Gross put forward the process model of emotional regulation, which consider that emotional regulation is mainly meant which factors will influence one’s emotion, when will produce emotion, how to feel one’s emotion, et al. According to the process of the emotional reaction, the emotional regulation strategies can be divide into five types. Current research have discussed the emotional regulation strategies of cognitive reappraisal and expression inhibition in depression patients, but few research about attentional deployment strategy. First of all, this research will discuss the use of cognitive reappraisal and expression inhibition in depression patients and controls use the method of questionnaire. Then, the research will analyze weather the strategy of attentional deployment in depression patients have damaged and the process of attentional deployment in patients use the method of event related potentials(ERPs).Methods: 1. The emotional regulation scale, which is divided into two dimensions, was used to investigate the cognitive reappraisal and expression inhibition of 20 depression patients and 22 controls. Comparing the difference of subscale score between patients and controls. Speculate that the depression patients with defects in the process of emotion regulation strategies. 2. Comparing the accuracy and reaction time of attentional deployment test in depression patients and normal controls, which were paired in age, sex, educated level, et al. Speculating that the patients’ attentional deployment strategy is flawed. 3. It was gather data of ERPs when 20 patients and 22 normal controls completing the task. The activities of ERPs were analyzed the difference between patients and controls, also the process of attentional deployment in patients. Results: 1. In the emotional regulation scale, the scores of cognitive reappraisal and expression inhibition subscale showed statistically significant between depression patients and normal controls. [(27.55±4.41) vs(33.95±6.36), t=3.76, P < 0.01,(35.55±6.16)vs(31.00±6.19),t=-2.39,P<0.05] 2. In the behavioral data of attentional deployment task the accuracy and reaction time showed statistically significant between patients and controls. It also showed statistically significant in the main effect of accuracy and reaction time.(F(2,40)=19.31,P<0.01, F(1,41)=8.36,P<0.05, F(2,40)=69.06,P<0.01, F(2,40)=5.18,P<0.05) 3. In the ERPs data of attentional depolyment, it showed that significant main effect of task in N1 components and P3 components. It showed significant interaction effect between task and groups in N1 components.(F(2,40)=32.20,P<0.01, t=1.02,P<0.05, t=0.33,P>0.05, F(2,40)=5.06,P<0.05)Conclusions: 1. Depression patients often use expression inhibition strategy to regulate their emotion, relative to controls, and seldom use cognitive reappraisal. 2. The depression patients showed that obviously disability of attentional deployment, and from the electrophysiological mechanism analysis, the attention deployment obstacles in the early stage of the emotion process has appeared and effect. 3. There is a positive correlation between the damage extent of attention deployment and severity of depression. It will provide a effective indicator about diagnosis of depression. |
