| Objective To determine the correlation between serum concentrations of fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) and calcification of radial artery in patients with diabetic nephropathy in uremic stage. Methods 36 patients with diabetic nephropathy in uremic stage (experimental group), and not yet started dialysis treatment were recruited in nephrology department, at the same time 40 people in good health (control group) were included as control.Radial arteries were excised from patients in experimental group through arteriovenous fistula operation, and von kossa-staining was used to judge the degree of calcification. The level of serum FGF-23 and OPG was measured by enzyme-linked immunlsorbent assay. And the serum concentrations of hemoglobin(Hb), albumin (A LB),calcium(Ca), phosphorus(P),intact parathyroid hormone(iPTH),glycated hemoglobin (HbAlc)and C-reactive protein(CRP) were measured. Results The serum concentration of FGF-23 in experimental group was (325.42± 145.55)pmol/L,while in control group was (185.08±44.66)pmol/L,there was significant difference between them(P<0.05). The serum concentration of OPG in experimental group was (401.05±158.7)pmol/L,while in control group was (155.60±80.08) pmol/L, there was significant difference between them (P<0.05).The concentration serum of P, iPTH and CRP in experimental group was higher than that in control one, while the concentration of Hb, Ca and ALB were lower in experimental group. The calcification of group. The calcification of radial arteries in experimental group located in tunica media. There were 20 cases without calcification in all 36 which (76.9%),4 cases with slight calcification (11.1%) and 4 cases with severe calcification (11.1%).Comparison of concentration of FGF-23〠OPG and serum P in non-calcification, slight and severe calcification groups indicated significant difference (P< 0.05).With the aggravation of vascular calcification, serum P〠FGF-23 and OPG in serum increased, and the absorbance value increased expression in the vascular wall immunohistochemistry. Conclusion Diabetic nephropathy patients in uremic stage prevalent radial artery calcification. The serum concentrations of FGF-23 and OPG level are significantly higher than that in healthy people and is associated with radial vascular calcification. |
