The Rumex L. plants of Polygonaceae are about 150 species in the world, mainly distributed in the north temperate zone.. There are 26 species and 2 varieties of Rumex L. in China, they were distributed in various regions of the country. The Rumex patientia L. named Tudahuang is a perennial herb, the root is stout and yellow. As a common Chinese herbal medicine, the Rumex patientia L. has the effect of cooling blood to stop bleeding, detoxification, laxative insecticidal, and so on. The chemical composition of the roots, entire plants, seeds and other parts of Rumex patientia L. have been reported, but the aerial parts were rarely reported. In order to further understand Rumex patientia L., this paper studied the chemical constituents of aerial part of Rumex patientia L.. The compounds were isolated and purified by silica column chromatography, polyamide column chromatography and recrystallization. Their structures were elucidated by physicochemical property and spectral analysis. Thirteen compounds were identified. Among them, there were six anthraquinone compounds:chrysophanol(1), chrysophanol-8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(2), physcion(3), physcion-8-O-β-.D-glucopyranoside (4), emodin (5), emodin-8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (6); three flavonoid compounds:maackiain-3--O-β-D glucopyranoside (7), quercetin-3-O-β-D-galactopyranoside(8), quercetm-3-O-β-D-glucuronide(9); two naphthalene compounds:torachrysone-8--O-β-D-glucopyranoside (10), nepodin-8--O-β-D glucopyranoside (11); two other compounds:2-O-methylinositol (12), daucosterol (13).Through a systematic study of the chemical constituents from the aerial parts of Rumex patientia L., we found that the main chemical composition are anthraquinone, naphthalene, flavonoid compounds. Compared to other parts of the chemical constituents of Rumex patientia L., we found that anthraquinone compounds are the common components. The results of the above research were further enriched the chemical constituents of Rumex patientia L., and provided a theoretical basis for better development and utilization of the medicinal plants of Rumex L.
