| Objective:To investigate the efficacy of combination of Bitongling and Methotrexate (MTX) on pattern of obstruction of cold-dampness for rheumatic arthritis (RA), and to preliminarily discuss the change of quality of life attributed by Bitongling for RA patients.Methods:a total of 50 collected cases of RA patients according with pattern of obstruction of cold-dampness were divided into two groups, patients in one group were the treatment group and administered Bitongling decoction, MTX (10mg qw), and Meloxicam (7.5mg qd), and patients in the other one were the control group and administered MTX (10mg qw) and Meloxicam (7.5mg qd). The course of both groups was 3 months. The change of syndromes and signs of patients, indexes of laboratory, safety, and quality of life before and after the medication were observed.Results:On the aspect of clinical signs such as joint pain, swollen, tenderness, and morning stiffness time, there were significant differences between control group and treatment group. From the point of view of clinical efficacy, the total efficacy in treatment group is 95.6% while that in control one is 52%(P<0.05). For the aspects of the main syndrome and sign, safety, quality of life, and indicators of ESR/RF/CRP, the efficacy in treatment group was more prominent than that in control one.Conclusion:Bitongling which was the formula prescribed by national famous and veteran Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) doctor Wang Lv Qiu for RA with pattern of cold-dampness shows a certain efficacy. The combination of TCM and western medication can not only relieve the clinical signs of patients, but also improve the indicators of laboratory. And the safety of this medication and the improvement of the quality of life also shows a good prospect for clinical application. |
