| Objective:This paper aims to analyze drugs in prescriptions for alopecia and explore the drug using patterns as well as compatibility rules of TCM doctors from both ancient and modern times via collecting prescriptions for the treatment of alopecia in ancient medical books and modern literature, thus providing reference the syndrome differentiation and prescription of alopecia.Method:This paper is divided into two parts, including theoretical study for the first part and data analysis for the second. In the first part, literatures regarding causes of hair loss, pathogenesis and syndrome differentiation were collected and sorted out with the order of dynasty, allowing us to have a preliminary summary of etiology, pathogenesis and syndrome differentiation of alopecia, as well as the experimental research progress on commonly used drugs for the treatment of alopecia. In the second part, all the prescriptions were put into system for association rules analysis via data the mining software SPSS Clementine 12 so as to explore the drug compatibility rules for frequently used drugs as well as their properties, flavors and meridian tropism.Results:1. In total,128 ancient prescriptions and 291 modern prescriptions were collected, in which 360 kinds drugs were used for a total usage frequency of 3878 times.2. Twenty drugs were frequently used to treat alopecia and the top five included Heshouwu (42.03%), Danggui (40.42%), Chuanxiong (34.41%), Shudihuang (29.79%) and Nvzhenzi (22.63%). Drugs with the function of nourishment, activating blood stasis, clearing heat, relieving exterior disorder, and removing dampness demonstrated the highest usage frequency of over 200 times, in which nourishing drugs were used for over 1541 times with a frequency of 39.74%.3. Association rules analysis found that drug pairs with the function of nourishing the liver and kidney, nourishing blood and promoting blood circulation were more frequently used.4. In terms of their properties, flavors and meridian tropism, it was discovered that warm, neutral and cold drugs were frequently used compared with others; sweet, bitter and pungent drugs were more frequently used; also, drugs with meridian tropism to the liver showed highest usage frequencies.Conclusion:1. Causes of alopecia can be summarized as the liver and kidney deficiency, interior dampness-heat, blood stasis and blood heat, thus making this disease intermingling with both deficiency and excess syndrome, as well as deficient root with overdo superficial. Dampness-heat, blood stasis and blood heat would affect viscera functions, resulting in the liver’s disability to store the blood, the kidney’s disability to store the essence, as well as qi, blood and essence deficiency, ultimately leading to alopecia. Accordingly, for the treatment, one should apply nourishing method as base for syndrome differentiation.2. Through the analysis of the prescription drug category, property, flavor, meridian tropism, it is discovered that among all the prescriptions for alopecia, they all use nourishing drugs as foundation to treat the "deficient root" and add other ones such as drugs for clearing heat, promoting dampness, activating blood circulation in accordance with other different supplementary syndromes, known as the "overdo superficial", which demonstrates the rule of nourishing the deficiency and removing the excess evil in drug usage. |
