The etiology of Alzheimer’s disease is so complicated that the biological mechanism is currently not well-known. Up to now, it is frustrated that the approved clinical medicines only address the symptoms and cannot efficiently slow down the degenerative process of the disease. As a result, new treatment strategies to prevent and cure Alzheimer’s disease are urgently needed. Adult neurogenesis in hippocampal area allows new neuronal cells to emerge in the central nervous system. Therefore, the brain’s plasticity is achieved in some sense. Adult neurogenesis in hippocampal area may shed a light on postponing the occurring of Alzheimer’s disease or even curing it.To date, the research on hippocampal neurogenesis has made some achievements. More and more compounds are deemed to promote adult neurogenesis. However, many of them are unable to pass blood-brain barrier(BBB), which will lead to an unacceptable dosage.This paper focuses on the compounds which promote adult hippocampal neurogenesis. The research mainly include the aspects below:1. Explore the influence of substituent group: by changing the substituent and its position.2. Explore the influence of double bond: by changing it to single bond or triple bond of carbon, which will be diphenylethane or diphenyldiacetylene.3. Explore the influence of link chain: by inserting an oxygen atom or a carboxide, which will be the derivatives of diphenyl acetylene compounds or chalcone.4. Explore the influence of phenyl group: by changing the aromatic ring.This paper explains the structure-function relationship of stilbenes on adult hippocampal neurogenesis.
