Objective: To observe the clinical effect of 1 Hz repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation(rTMS) on the treatment of insomnia, and evaluate the safety of the therapy. Methods: 60 patients with insomnia collected from neurology, rehabilitation, psychological departments of First Hospital of Lanzhou University were randomly divided into observation group and control group with each group of 30 patients. Both groups were treated with oral Tartrate of 5-10 mg Zolpidem before got in bed for 4 weeks, while patients in observation group with 1 Hz rTMS 10 times(i.e., as a course). At the 1st and 4th week, PSQI, HAMA, HAMD and EEG were evaluated. At the same time, side effects were monitored. Database was established by SPSS21.0 software for statistical analysis. Results: 1. 60 patients completed the experiment all, with no fall off and no drop off. 2. There is no significant difference(P>0.05) in the level of education, nation, gender, marital status, age and course of both groups. 3. Before treatment, the difference between the groups of PSQI and each component scores had no statistical significance(P>0.05). Scores of the observation group all decreased more, After treatment. PSQI, sleep time, sleep efficiency, sleep quality, and daytime dysfunction scores’ difference of observation group was statistically significant(P<0.05). The difference of effective rate(90%, 66.67%) was statistically significant(P=0.028). 4. There were no statistically significant differences between the groups of HAMA and HAMD scores(P>0.05), before treatment. HAMA and HAMD scores of observation group decreased more after treatment and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). 5. Before treatment, there was no statistically significant difference(P= 0.602) between the groups of EEG abnormal rate(40%, 46.67%). After treatment the difference of EEG abnormal rate(13.33%, 36%) was statistically significant(P=0.037). 6. There was no statistically significant difference(P=0.688) between the groups of side effects(13.33%, 10.00%).Conclusion: 1 Hz rTMS combined conventional drugs can treat insomnia better, and can treat the symptoms of anxiety, depression. The therapy will not increase the incidence of adverse reactions.
