Objective: Observation on efficacy of medicinal vesiculation therapyon pediatric asthma, and on the basis of the clinical research study explore its mechanism of action in preventing and treating bronchial asthma in children. Methods: 80 children diagnosed with asthma in the traditional Chinese medicine department of our hospital from July, 2013 to August, 2015, met the diagnostic criteria of Qi deficiency constitution in remission period of asthma and were evenly divided into two groups: a Western medicine group and a TCM group. In the TCM group, patients merely received the medicinal vesiculation therapy, while in the Western medicine group, patients were treated with Budesonide inhalation regularly. The control group was constituted by 20 healthy children without genetic connection with the patients and other diseases, randomly selected in the same region with the patients and sourcing from the department of surgery of our hospital. Comparison of symptoms, syndromes and clinical efficacy etc. between the TCM group and the Western medicine group before and after treatment was conducted. In the experimental study, flow cytometry was used to carry out comparison of expression quantities of TGF-β1 and Smad3 in the TCM group, the Western medicine group and the control group and SPSS17.0 was applied to conduct statistical analysis.Results:1. Clinical research: 1In the TCM group and the Western medicine group, their differences in respects of age, gender and courses of disease were not statistically significant(P ﹥ 0.05), but comparable. 2 In the two groups, their effects on nasal obstruction, sneezing, cough, wheeze and polypnea were similar(P﹥0.05), but effects of the TCM group on improving spontaneous perspiration, spiritlessness and weakness were better than those of the Western medicine group(P﹤0.05). 3Total morbidity rates of both groups reduced after treatment(P﹤0.01). 2. Experimental study: 1 In the TCM group and the Western medicine group, their differences of expression quantities of TGF-β1 and Smad3 tested by flow cytometry before treatment were not statistically significant(P ﹥ 0.05). 2 Differences of expression quantities of TGF-β1 and Smad3 before treatment between the normal group and the other two groups were statistically significant respectively(P﹤0.01). 3Compared with expression quantities of TGF-β1 and Smad3 before treatment, those of both groups after treatment declined(P﹤0.01). 4After treatment, there was no significant difference of expression quantities of TGF-β1 and Smad3 between the normal group and the other two groups(P﹥0.05). 5After treatment, there were differences of expression of Smad3 between the normal group and the other two groups(P ﹤ 0.01). 6Compared with the Western medicine group, effects of the TCM group on reducing expression of Smad3 were slightly better(P﹤0.01).Conclusion:Medicinal vesiculation therapy and inhaled budesonide had similar effects on the primary symptoms, such as nasal congestion, sneezing, cough, wheezing, and shortness of breath; however, the former had remarkable effects on spontaneous sweating, weariness and weak caused by Qi-insufficiency constitution. In the experimental research, both medicinal vesiculation therapy and inhaled budesonide could regulate the expression quantity of TGF-β1 to normal level, but the former had more notable effect on regulating the expression quantity of Smad3.
