| Objective:To evaluate the safety and efficacy of flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy for intrarenal and proximal ureteral calculi of more than 2 cm in diameter. Methods: 79 patients with intrarenal or proximal ureteral calculi of more than 2 cm in diameter underwent flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy with holmium laser, there were 70 cases of stones size ranges from 2-3cm,5 cases ranges from 3-4cm and 4 cases of staghorn calculi; there were 38 cases of multiple stones and 41 cases of single stone. Two weeks before operations, all patients were placed double J stents. Holmium laser was used to perform the procedure. Results: The success rate of insertion of ureteroscope and located the calculi was 100%.The follow- up of 2 weeks showed the stone-free rate was 78.48%(62/79); the overall stone-free rate was 88.60%(70/79), the mean number of procedures was 1.2.No severe intraoperative complications occurred,4 cases postoperative had a urosepsis and 3 cases had urinary tract obstruction. Conclusion: Flexible ureteroscopic with Holmium laser lithotripsy are safe and effective therapy for 2-4cm intrarenal and proximal ureteralcalculi, and can be used as an alternative treatment option for especial renal staghorn calculi. |
