| Background:Emergency care work plays the pivot role in the healthcare system. Emergency department is the frontline and window of the hospital. When the public healthcare emergency occurs, the victims are initially managed and treated in the emergency department. The daily work in emergency department depends on the competency characteristics and psychological quality of emergency physician. Therefore, the evaluation of the competency characteristics and psychological quality of emergency physician is significant to emergency work in China.Objective:The aim of this study is to explore what competency characteristics and psychological quality the Emergency Physicians should have, and also to provide theoretical basis for the training and selection of emergency physicians.Method: According to Occupational Information Network of the U.S. Department of Labor, 200 emergency physicians in China were carried on the questionnaires. By multi-dimensional analysis of their work ability, work skills, work activities and work style, we have built a competency model of emergency physicians and validated the analysis and evaluation of results.Result: 1.Based on the results of questionnaires, the competency characteristic indexes of five dimensions were extracted. The top ten quotas of each dimension were selected. The emergency physicians competency model was established on the basis of the indexes. The reliability and validity of the model was verified by the peer review.2.Emergency physicians must have the ability to solve complex problems, be good at internal coordination, and have the job skills of doctor-patient communication. Emergency physician should have corresponding working style of responsibility, pressure resistance and independency.3.Emergency physician must have multidisciplinary medical knowledge and rich medical skills. There exists obvious difference(P<0.01 or P<0.05)between doctors whose seniority are shorter than 5 years and those whose seniority are more than 5 years in emergency room. The results demonstrated that there exists time limit for the growth of emergency physicians. It is a process of active learning to need to guide, train and make efforts for them.Conclusion: We have preliminary built and verified a competency model of emergency physicians in China in this study, which provides the reliable theory basis in order to establish competence characteristics research system and professional selection system in future. |
