Wang shenzhong is the poet and essayist in Ming dynasty. He is characteristic incommenting on the poems of DuFu, and he is an very important role in the depreciation onthe poems of DuFu. His commentary has been dispersed in all kinds of writings, lacking of acollecting. I have collected the scattering comments from two different original books in mypaper, and especially researching on the part of depreciation on DuFu`s peoms, analyzing thegain and loss, then summarizing the reasons.On the point of depreciation on DuFu`s poems, Wang shenzhong has criticized thepoems of DuFu from the style of writing, the character and skill of art. DuFu is renowned as agreat collection poet on his poems and art. However, with the disadvantage of returning to theancients in Ming, as the adored poet, DuFu was becoming the subject of being attacked.Almost everyone criticized him, from the content to the form, and from the poems to theperson himself. DuFu deserved the ruthless judgment. And Wang shenzhong was one of them,who was criticizing the poems of DuFu in a delicate way. There were some inevitable errorsin his criticism, while there were some important ones in a high view.Certainly there were gain and loss in the comments of Wang shenzhong. The gain wasthat he commented the poems in the point of style and tune, involving every aspects of thepoems, and giving a high praise to the mode and tone of the poems. And the loss is alsoobvious.
