Procrastination is defined as a negative concept in most researches about procrastination. But, in recent years, some researchers are focus on the positive meaning of procrastination, and the concept of positive procrastination was brought out. There are two types of procrastination that classified by Chu&Choi(2005). One named passive procrastination, which is the same meaning as the traditional negative procrastination, the other one is active procrastination, which is an adaptive behavior model, and it wouldn’t take negative effect to procrastinator. Academic procrastination is the concept that putting the procrastination in the academic situation. There are many researches about passive academic procrastination which is seemed as traditional procrastination, but little researches about active academic procrastination which is seemed as positive procrastination. In order to understand academic procrastination well, the present research made out Active Academic Procrastination Inventory for College Students based on existing researches, then distinguished the two types of academic procrastination (Passive academic procrastination&Active academic procrastination).There are many factors would effect procrastination. Both Time management disposition and Learning motivation are important factors which could effect learning behaviors. After analyze existing researches, the present research would do comparison researches of passive procrastination and active procrastination and explore the relationship among passive academic procrastination, time management, learning motivation and the relationship among active academic procrastination, time management, learning motivation, then make well comprehension on the differences between passive academic procrastination and active academic procrastination. At last, some educational advice would be raised according to the results.This research used over one thousand normal college students as the research sample and used several questionnaires as the instrument. Then the present research found that:(1) The Active Academic Procrastination Inventory for College Students had good validity and reliability. It was up to psychology testing theory, and it could be used in the relative researches. (2)Passive procrastination took26.87%of the research sample while active academic procrastination took17.34%.(3)Active procrastinators had significant higher level learning motivation and time management disposition than passive procrastinators.(4)Passive procrastination and time management disposition had significant minor correlation, time management disposition could predict passive procrastination, and amount of variation get to39.4%.(5)Active procrastination, time management disposition and learning motivation had significant positive correlation. Time management disposition and learning motivation could predict active procrastination.(6)Time management disposition, learning motivation could directly predict active procrastination, and learning motivation could indirectly predict active procrastination though time management disposition.
