| Since the twentieth century, polytonality has gradually become one of the technological means whichwas attached more importance by composers in modern times. This type of new tonal thinking andexpression form which was originated from traditional tonal theory developed rapidly with thepromotion of many musicologists and composers. Positive progress of modern music in china wasclosely associated with rational adoption of multi-voice system in Europe as well as the summarizingand thinking in sino-western musical exchanges. Under this background, it is significant to discussand research polytonalism which have developed immaturely in the sphere of composition theory inchina.Darius Milhaud and Bela Bartok were two representatives among many composers who appliedpolytonality to writing in the western composition field. This thesis tries to make a comparativeresearch about paragraphs in some works created in a polytonal way by them following the clue ofpolytonality theory, its evolution and relating factors. It also produces a comparative analysis from theaspects of artistic conception,aesthetic perception, musical material, mode, tonality, organization ofvoices and style characteristic. First, the paper deals with the origin of polytonality, that is, thedevelopment of polytonal music and the important basis it laid for its theory. Next, it analyses thecharacteristics of inheritance and absorption of polytonal music writing from Darius Milhaud andBela Bartok, and further researches their ways of expression based on European musical system.Third, it focuses on and analyses the differences in their mode, tonality, organization of voices andstyle characteristic in particular. It analyses their differences and the reasons behind in the ideas ofmusical writing and skill implement, the two main items. Besides, it interprets the reasons forsimilarities and differences in their composition style. The thesis can not only help us understand howthey selectively accept achievements from their predecessors, but also probe into the reasons andways in their differences in musical writing, so as to grasp their distinct features and positions in thedevelopment of tonality in modern times. In addition, the paper analyses and interprets the similaritiesbetween their polytonal musical works, and then induces the essential requirements and influences ofmusical writing under the situation of diversified individual characteristics. Realistic significance ofthe paper is discussed from multiple aspects of comparison, analysis, and summary. |
