Chinese idioms are the crystallization of Chinese and Chinese culture, wecan understand the linguistic characteristics of the idioms by analyzing theconstruction characteristics and the level and oblique tones format of these idioms,exploring the culture of love and marriage included in the idioms can gain a deeperunderstanding the cultural charm of the idioms. Based on the static research, thispaper aims to analyze the linguistic characteristics of the idioms and the culture of thelove and marriage included in these idioms, then, compare the similarities anddifferences between the ancient and modern opinions of love and marriage byanalyzing the developments of the idioms of love and marriage.This paper is divided into five chapters: The first chapter is an introduction,introducing discussing the origin of this paper, review research, the scope of drawingmaterials and the standards of selecting idioms, the meaning and value of the paperand research methods and innovations and so on; The second chapter is the meaningclassification of these idioms. These idioms are divided into two parts: the idioms oflove and the idioms of marriage. These idioms of love include the ones of describingthe emotion of the lovers and the ones of describing the date. The idioms of marriageinclude the idioms of describing marriage, marriage choice, marriage purpose,wedding blessings, pre-marital proprieties, marital proprieties, married couple’srelationship and emotions, divorce, preserving woman’s chastity after the death of herhusband and remarriage and the institution of marriage and so on; The third chapter isa discussion of the linguistic characteristics of the idioms of love and marriage, suchas the construction characteristics, the level and oblique tones format of these idiomsand the rhetoric included in these idioms; The fourth chapter mainly discusses theculture of love and marriage included in the idioms, including the imagery, imageryculture of the idioms, ante marital etiquette and custom, wedding customs, nuptial miscellaneous formalities, husband and wife’s status in their family and theiremotions, divorce, remarriage, the institution of marriage, the opinions of love andmarriage and marriage types and so on; The fifth chapter compares the similaritiesand differences between the ancient and modern opinions of love and marriage byanalyzing the developments of the idioms of love and marriage in the modern Chinese.Then analyses the causes of these similarities and differences arise.
