| This translation report is about the translation of Global Survey on InternetPrivacy and Freedom of Expression published by UNESCO. There has been noChinese edition so far since its publication at the end of2012. In the book, it describeslaws and regulations of privacy and freedom of expression in different countries andthe ways to balance them; it also puts forward some relevant policy recommendations.The Chinese translation of the extracted part–Chapters Four and Five–is doneindependently by the translator in the guidance of the tutor.The translation was guided by text typology with Katharine Reiss as itsrepresentative. According to different communicative functions, texts are divided intothree types, namely informative text, expressive text and operative text; and differenttranslation principles are established accordingly. Therefore, the characteristics of theoriginal text are analyzed first in the translation practice, and such methods as lineartranslation, reversing, division and mixture of methods are used to achieve theprinciples for informative text–faithfulness, smoothness and coherence. Thistranslation report is mainly used to record the difficulties and solutions in thetranslation process. Through this activity, the translator realizes the importance ofpractice for MTI studies, as well as the importance of preparations and theoreticalknowledge in the translation process. |
