Over the past decade, Think-aloud Protocols (TAPs) have been used extensivelyin process-oriented Translation Studies. Theorists and scholars studied translationstrategies via TAPs and made achievements. However, most of the studies focus onthe differences in the use of translation strategies between language learners andprofessional translators. The paper probes into the differences among translationlearners in their use of achievement strategies in the Chinese-English translationprocess. Thirty MTI students are selected as the subjects of an empirical research viaTAPs including screen capture and retrospective interviews. The results show thattranslation learners with excellent translation performances tend to employ a packageof achievement strategies and solve translation problems creatively, while those withpoor translation performances largely depend on one single strategy to handle aparticular translation problem. It is, therefore, advisable to guide translation learners toconsciously integrate various strategies in their translation process so as to enhancetheir translation performance effectively.
