| Interpreting concerning foreign military affairs is an important part of militarytranslation, so interpreters’ role in interpreting concerning foreign military affairs is aworthy question to explore. In this internship report, the author aims to probe into the rolesof interpreters in this field based on his own internship experience----an interpreting task forforeign military training in an academy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (CPLA).This internship interpreting task lasted for half a year. By recording the process ofinternship task, the author analyzed the interpreters’ roles positioning in coping withdifficulties posed by the differences between social systems and ideologies, cultural contextand insufficiency of professional knowledge and vocabulary. The author found that rolesinterpreters play in this field are at least three kinds, namely the bridge of languages andwords, the facilitators of the training quality and the mediators of cultural differences.Moreover, the interpreters are expected to flexibly adjust their roles according to specificneeds and situations.In this internship report, the author will describe the interpreting task and process indetail, and focus on analyzing the above mentioned three roles of interpreters through someexamples and case study. Hopefully, this report can help potential interpreters better adaptinto relevant tasks in the future. |
