| Helen Forster Snow, an American woman who was born in1907and died in1997, sojourned in China in1930s. She sympathized with China’s struggles against Japan, witnessed and did her best to support1.29Student Movement. Because of her friendly activities, she got Chinese people’s trust and had a better knowledge of turbulent China. When in Yenan, she interviewed some senior leaders of Chinese Communist Party. She also interviewed Zhang Ming, a Korean Revolutionary staying in Yenan, and collected a lot of data about Koreans’anti-Japanese struggles based on which she completed her works Inside Red China, Song of Ariran:the Life Story of a Korean Rebel and so on. These books showed the history of China and Korea’s struggles against Japan from an American’s angle in that times. They are participants’firsthand historical data which are helpful for well understanding China and Korea’s Anti-Japanese struggles. Based on former study, The paper writer tries to analyze deeply the social environment of Helen’s trip for the Orient, the relationship between China and Korea’s Anti-Japanese Struggles and her and makes a comment on characters, contribution and effect of Helen’s interviews.The thesis consists of preface, body and conclusion.The preface illustrates the reasons why chose thesis and its significance, research history, collection and use of research data, important research approaches and its originality.The body is divided into four, regarding Helen’s activities as clue. The first part is about the background of Helen’s going to the Orient, which shows its inevitability of the trip by analyzing her family background, influence from Pearl S. Buck’s works, religious factors and changes in the Orient.The second part analyzes the relationship between Helen and China’s struggles against Japan from Helen’s first visit in Suzhou and Shanghai, comparison between China and Japan, National Government’s policies towards Japan, her interviews and participation in resistant activities. The third part illustrates the relationship between Helen and Korea’s movement of independence by introducing Korea’s Anti-Japanese Struggles and Korea conquered by Japanese, her interview to Zhang Ming, her Song of Ariran:the Life Story of a Korean Rebel and its influence.The fourth part comments on the characteristics, contribution and influence of her reports about China and Korea’s Anti-Japanese Struggles.The conclusion which is grounded on all the former discussions summarizes Helen’s life in the United States, her activities in the Orient and the firsthand data she collected in China, shows Helen’s contribution to China and Korea’s Anti-Japanese wars. |
