| China’s educational translation was first introduced during the Ming and QingDynasties, which is still confronted with double challenges of quality and quantity. Thetranslation project is selected from Teaching and Learning in the Language Classroomwritten by Tricia Hedge, aiming to provide China’s educational translation and foreignlanguage teaching practice with reference. During the translation, the author firstanalyses the project’s background and significance. On the basis of the introduction oforiginal text’s writer, an analysis is made on the contents and language features. Takingreaders as the starting point, the author chooses Eugene A. Nida’s functionalequivalence theory to instruct the translation project. Respecting the fact that thistranslation project comprises a lot of long and complex English sentences, the authorselects translation skills of adjustment of word order to break the shackles of form andexpress original text’s meaning correctly. These methods are applied to adjust wordorder according to temporal sequence, logical sequence, key information andcollocation. Putting functional equivalence theory into practice, the report facilitatescase study to demonstrate how the methods of adjustment of word order is appliedto translate long and complex English sentences, which will be the reference for futuretranslators and researchers in educational translation. |
