| As the new beginning of the life, wedding is considered as the major milestone, which is irreplaceable in one’s life. Wedding, as a kind of etiquette form, has close relationship with the culture. Compared with other custom that can embody the traditional cultures, wedding is equipped with more cultural connotation and symbols. It carries the essence of the traditional culture. It is one of the most important aspects that can embody the traditional customs. Weddings vary according to different cultures.Coming from different countries and cultures respectively, Chinese traditional Han weddings and English weddings have different features. In order to analyze the Chinese traditional Han weddings and English weddings, this thesis chooses the Moment in Peking and Vanity Fair as the material and analyzes the Chinese traditional Han’s weddings and English weddings in these two works by Hofstede’s value dimensions which include individualism and collectivism, uncertainty avoidance, power distance, and masculinity and femininity.Through the analysis, the thesis finds out that the Chinese traditional Han weddings are equipped with characteristics of collectivism, high uncertainty avoidance, high power distance and masculinity. And English weddings have the features of individualism, low uncertainty avoidance, low power distance and femininity. The differences of Chinese traditional Han weddings and English weddings are rooted in the differences of Chinese traditional culture and British culture. |
