Wuxi is one of the cities who are famous for modern industry and commerce. Its natio nalindustry and commerce developed rapidly in the Minguo period. Visual culture of Wuxinational industry and commerce also emerged at that time. This culture has Wu culture’sfeature. A flourishing design situation combining Chinese and Western was prese nt, becomingthe bright point of China’s modern commercial design.Firstly, this thesis states the sprout, development and decline of the visual culture ofWuxi national industry and commerce from geographic location, social environment,humanity history background, from the change of politics, economy and culture in theMinguo period. Secondly, it describes the artistic feature which is the blending of western andeastern culture, of the ancient and the modern through subject classification and case study,combining Wu culture characteristics and trend on Western Learning. Meanwhile, the thesissummarizes the alternation of visual design on Wuxi national industry and commerce in formand content according to the transverse and vertical comparison of other areas and period’.Finally, it takes visual communication, public’s psychology and culture affiliation asorientation to systematically analyzes and elaborates the design methods of visual culture onWuxi national industry and commerce from chromatics, psyc hology and communicationsperspectives.This thesis discusses the harmony and multiplicity between East and West, tradition andfashion, politic and business in visual culture of Wuxi national industry and commerce bytaking Wuxi, whose industrial and commercial civilization was mature, as a stronghold andtaking the Minguo period as a starting point, reflecting the time style and mental outlook inthat particular period.
