Two on a Tower is one of Thomas Hardy’s famous novels. This romantic novel is co-translated by theauthor of the present report and other six students. The author is responsible for the translation of chapters32to35and this thesis takes her translation as the analysis materials.This thesis consists of four chapters: Chapter One introduces this translation program, including theorigin and significance of this program and the brief introduction of this novel and its writer. Chapter Twoexplains the main ideas of Nord’s translation-oriented text analysis model and based on this model thischapter analyzes the source text intensively. Chapter Three discusses the translation methods used in thistranslation program with specific examples, mainly the translation of astronomical knowledge, culturalinformation and those long and difficult sentences. Chapter Four is a conclusion about this translationprogram, including the summary of this experience and the problems to be solved later.
