Wang Meng Literary Thought

Wang Meng, one of the most influential writers of contemporary China, Who hasalways made a great contribution to the literature in every historical stage of China.Meanwhile,as a thinker and literary critic, Wang Meng can continue inspiring us tocome up with new ideas, new observations and new thinking ways on literature withhis profound literary insights. In the long writing career, especially in the last tenyears, Wang Meng has published a large number of literary criticism, essays, creativetalks. Basing on these materials, this paper try to summarize Wang Meng’s literaryideas.The paper is divided into three chapters. The first chapter discusses Wang meng’sLiterary theory. Breaking the traditional dualistic thinking,he put forward that theparadox is composed of the basic properties of literature. At the same time herecognized the literature paradox which is an important dialectical thinking way tosolve the problems on literature by understanding the literary pluralism and culturalcomplex activities. Literature is a social phenomenon,and on the other hand theculture is the phenomenon of life. It is the literature that Wang meng regards as one ofthe ways of human life. The second chapter analyzes Wang meng’s views on thefunction of literature from his multiple perspectives. Not only can the lieratureprovide the feeling of wholeness and care for people with cognitive function, but alsoliterature plays a great role in entertainment,comfort and cultural functions. The thirdchapter ephasizes main theory of literary creation. The "man"is the center of literature,and the core of literature is the creation, which is the basis of Wang Meng’s literarytheory. He highlights the literary fiction and gives much thought on relationshipbetween the real and fictional creation. Besides, Wang Meng pursuits the diversityand innovation in the creation of language.
