The period of the end of the19th centry is a transformation from romanticism tomodernism music. Rachmaninoff still insisted on the creative style of romanticism. Ifound the most existing researches of Rachmaninoff’s piano prelude concentrating onthe analysis of the prelude perse and the shape of structure. Most of them ignored thathistorical environment and social culture modality has an influence on the composingand the art style of Rachmaninoff’s piano prelude. In this composition, I try to analyzeRachmaninoff’s piano prelude and its musical connotation basing on social historyand nominal art,and I want to get a academic gist of performance guidance.There are five chapters in my composition. Chapter one introduceRachmaninoff’s life and his major compositions. Chapter two, on Rachmaninoff’scomposing background of piano prelude including three aspects: historical andcultural background, the background of composer’s living environment and thetransformation of romantic musical style and its influence on composers. Chapterthree mainly concentrates on the new concepts of Rachmaninoff’s composing.Chapter four analyzes the main body of Rachmaninoff’s24piano preludes involvingmelody, harmony, rhythm, texture etc from which we can see the composing featuresand characteristics of Rachmaninoff’s piano prelude. And in the final chapter, thestudy on performance, musicality, dynamical variation and tonal master of the24piano preludes and its structure give tremendous prominence.The biggest trait of this composition is that it combined the research ofRachmaninoff’s piano prelude with the basic knowledge of prelude and the musicconnotation knowledge of society, culture and aesthetics in specific historical period.It broadened the academic understanding of Rachmaninoff’s piano prelude, and thus ithad an instructional meaning and practical meaning in performance.The composition places emphasis on the scientific applying on performingmethods of Rachmaninoff’s piano prelude, summarizes its technology, givesperforming hints to its style and expounds on musical characteristics of Rachmaninoffand the great value of his piano prelude from the perspective of music culture.
