Throughout all the André Gide ’s works, it was not hard to find that his life andcreation were influenced each other. Self-writing and self-searching had become aunique way of his creation.Gide always seemed to be in dialogue with himself all hislifetime. This article researches Gide’s autobiographical writing from the perspectiveof identity and narrative. His writing intention and the background of theautobiography, the identity construction and the autobiography narrative art will bediscussed. This dissertation consists of five parts are as following.The first part is the introduction. This part analyses the domestic and foreignresearch status of Gide, the research value of Gide’s autobiographical writing, as wellas the significance of the subject and the research features.Chapter one states Gide’s autobiography writing intention. From three aspects,such as family environment, era background,literature ideological trend three aspectsof context, to analyze his autobiography writing intention, including Gide narcissuscomplex and the breakthrough of original identity.Chapter two analyses the establishment process of Gide’s autobiographicalwriting identity. Gide mainly showed a gay writer’s identity who was againstreligious moral boldly in his work.The identity in the different phases of the life of thespecific performance were the puritans, immoralist, and separatists.This article willdiscuss the identity’s manifestation of different life stages and the dynamic process ofthe construction.Chapter three discusses the narrative art of Gide’s autobiographical writing. Thenarrative techniques and narrative strategy are used in the writing of his biographyand achieved effect. Such as intermingled deficiency and excess, nested narrativestructure, delayed type process and diary—style narrate form and so on.The conclusion part discusses the meaning of Gide’s autobiographical writing.
