In the course of Chinese modernization, China needs to participate in international communications to learn advanced high-technology and management methods from foreign countries. Therefore, scientific translation is becoming more and more important. Such documents are full of highly formal and professional words and expressions, and the quality of the translation often influences the grasp and implementation of the project. The Cultivation of Mushrooms tells about the advanced mushroom cultivation techniques in the Netherlands. The translation of this book is a part of one business project of Shanghai Xuerong Biotechnology Co., Ltd., who initiated to establish a mushroom cultivation base by bringing in advanced techniques. By analyzing the characteristics of the text and translation process, the report aims to discuss three questions:what translating guidance does text type have on scientific text, how to translate special words in English for Science and Technology(EST), and how to translate long sentences in EST? In order to analyze these aspects, the author firstly describes the translation brief, including backgrounds of the source text and analysis of the text type, and then tells the preparation, production and correction in the whole course of the translation. In the following case studies, the author focuses on two difficulties met in translating EST:the translation of technical words and long sentences. At the end of this report, the author summarizes some experience in this translating project.
