For a long time, Lu Xun’s entire denial of Chinese traditional culture is highlyvalued by the academia and relative researches are plenty. Nevertheless, littleattention has been attached to Lu Xun’s potential inheritance of Chinese culture, especially the inheritance relationship between Lu Xun and Confucian practicalrational thinking. As an intellectual who grew up in both social and historicaltransitional period, his literary creation couldn’t avoid the influence of Confucianpractical rational thinking. The influence of Confucian practical rational thinking on Lu Xun’s literarycreation first is manifested in creation motive. From the life choice of “abandonmedicine for literature” at the beginning to the formation of his literature view “forlife”, Lu Xun was always under the influence of Confucian practical rational thinking. The influence then is manifested in literary practice, as the subjects, content, characterization and technique of expression in Lu Xun’s literary creation are allconnected with Confucian practical rational thinking. Confucian practical rationalthinking contributed to Lu Xun’s numerous excellent works depicting real life. At thesame time, however, this traditional thinking habit also had negative impacts on LuXun’s literary creation. This paper mainly researches the influence of Confucianpractical rational thinking on Lu Xun’s literary creation and probes into thecontradictory relationship between Lu Xun and Chinese traditional culture.
