Protect and evoke the memories and attention of the cities’historical elements through the landscape planning and design methods. Make it become the cities’remarkable feature and beautify the urban public environment. Firstly, explore the origin and development of the water conservancy project in history. Investigate the present situation of the water conservancy heritage in today’s cities and analyze. The survey indicates that most of water conservancy heritage in the cities of the northern region in Xinjiang are in unpleasant situation. Some of them are dried up due to the lack of water source supply. Some was abandoned due to the loss of primary function. Some are damaged by the disorderly city expansion. Most of them get no attention from the city planning department. But those water conservancy facilities which left over from history are the historical marks of the cities, which should be treated as the historical elements to protect and improve. Secondly, explore the value of these water conservancy heritages in modern cities by using the professional method of landscape plan and design. These values include the historical value, cultural value, aesthetic value and the value of improving the urban public environment. Analyze the development and present situation of the city’s canal system network which consists by the water conservancy heritage. And offer a proposal which would protect and improve them. Complete the urban canal system network by building the urban canal green corridor. And then offer some professional proposals to the different cannel space.
