This translation report aims at giving a self-evaluation and summary for theEnglish-Chinese translation of the original An Introduction to Foreign LanguageLearning and Teaching (2012), of which Chapter nine and Chapter eleven are the sourcetext. The material is an educational text, and the translation fits into the category of non-literary translation with strong professional and practical characteristics. In the processof translation, the author adheres to the “Faithfulness and Fluency” translation criteria,trying to ensure the target readers get the equal effect as reading the original.This report mainly consists of four parts: the first part is an overall description ofthe translation project, including the background of the project translation, the objectivethat the author wants to achieve, and the theoretical and practical significance of theproject, this part also briefly introduces the structure of the report. The second part is thebackground of the source text, which introduces the original version and main content,and particularly analyzes the source text from the aspects of text type, writingcharacteristics and language features. The third part is the main body of the project,which gives a detailed discussion of preparations, translation difficulties that the authormet, translation methods and skills that the author applied, and a short summary of thechapter. The fourth part is the conclusion of the report, it makes an in-depth analysis anda profound rethink of the whole translation project, concludes with the lessons in thetranslation practice, and points out the problems that the project still should be solved.To a certain extent, this translation practice lays a solid foundation for enrichingthe author’s theoretical knowledge, improving the practical translation skills and level,and enhancing the analytical and problem-solving ability. Meanwhile, the author alsorealizes that translation is an arduous and complex work, she should continuously widenher knowledge, enhance the knowledge of both English and Chinese culture, and consider actively and do more practice in the future.
